I had an exceptional Wisconsin opening archery weekend. I wasn't prepared and did not even go out Sat. morning but the afternoon hunt made up for that. I was in a tree by 3:30 pm and at 5pm I started to see deer. The first two that came by were two nice bucks, one being a seven pointer that was still in full velvet and the other a 18" wide 6 pointer (should have been an eight but did not have brow tines). Wish I would have brought the camcorder to record all of their antics. Then a doe and two fawns came by. With 45 min. to go in the first night, and 60 yards north of me I saw flickers of more deer heading out to the corn field. There were two more bucks and they came right in to the oak area I was sitting in to feed on acorns before going out to the corn in the daylight. The first, a nice white racked eight and the second, a dandy 10 pointer. The ten came in to range and stopped at 15 yards to eat an acorn. That was the opportunity I needed to come to full draw and get off a shot . He went maybe 20 yards then collapsed. Wow, I was shaking like a leaf. Spent the next day cutting up the fresh venison. He weighed 186 pounds, what a brute. Green scored the rack at 132 6/8ths inches with 2 3/8ths inches of deductions. Eighteen inches wide and over four inch bases. Final net score is 130 3/8ths which after the 30 drying time should easily meet the 125" min. required to enter into the Pope and Young Wis. Archery record book. All I can say is wow. Now it is does only and try and put my dad and good friend on a buck. I'm on the left and to the right is my best friend and hunting partner Rich Montana.
